Make Your Own Creative Bows

I was surfing the web and discovered a tutorial on making bows out of magazines.  Well, I thought, how about paper from old books, instead?  Some time ago I had purchased an old dictionary from the thrift store for $2. I have made some cool projects from it.  Let me show you what I did to make these awesome bows!

The supplies you will need are as follows:
  •  an old book that you can take pages out of (I like it when the pages are kind of yellowed)
  • glue dots
  • stapler
  • (not shown) Xacto knife makes it easier to get the pages out of the book

Step One:

  • Cut the paper into strips that are 9.5 inches long and 1/2 inches wide.
  • Cut 3/4 inch off three of the strips and cut 1.5 inches off two of the strips.  Final strip is 3 inches long.
  • (NOTE:  This book has pages that are 9.5" x 7".  If you were using a magazine page that was 11" x 8.5", then I would cut them 3/4" wide, cut 1" off three of the strips, and cut 2" off two of the strips.  Final strip would be 3.5" long.)

 Step Two:
  • Twist each strip as shown and staple in the middle.
  • Use a glue dot to make the small strip into a circle.

Step Three:
  • Use a glue dot for each twist and attach to the twisted strips that are the same size as show above.

Step Four:
  • Attach sections with glue dots to get completed bow as shown above.

Finished Bow -
You can add extra strips as shown to make the ribbon streamers, if desired.

That's it!  Now  your imagination can go wild.  What else can you make bows with?  Have fun with it!

Easy and FREE PrintScreen Program

Hey, Cindy here!  I have a cool feature to show you!

Have you ever been asked to send someone a screen shot but didn't know how? Or, when you did find the PrtScn button, you didn't know what to do with it after that?

Well, help is on the way. I found an awesome prgram that is free and so easy to use. You are going to love this!
Gadwin PrintScreen lets you capture images from your computer screen. For example, you can capture the entire screen or choose the area that you want to capture. You can capture the contents of the screen with a single keystroke. The captured screen can then be sent to the printer, or saved to disk as a file in 6 different graphics file formats. The hot key defaults to the PrintScreen key, but you may also define other keys to initiate a capture. Gadwin PrintScreen allows you to e-mail the captured images as well! Visit the company's Web site at http://www.Gadwin.com.

(I added the arrows and word bubbles in my Photoshop program.)

Here's a video to show you from start to finish how easy this is!

The Dirty Dash

Hey! For all you active runners out there I have the next best thing! If any of you have heard of The Dirty Dash then you already know where I'm going with this and how totally awesome it is. I heard about the beloved mud run from a friend of mine. When she told me that it was a 5k mud obstacle course where you wallow in filthiness and sometimes dress up in ridiculous costumes, I almost peed with excitement. Also, I was a little nervous. I love running but I was in no way ready for a race. But when the day came, I realized that most people there weren't ready for a race either. Thy just came to roll around in the mud.

The dirty dash has been around for a while now and travels the country giving everyone a chance to act like a pig for a day. You get to jump over hay stacks, crawl through muddy tunnels, wade through thick swampy pools and run (or slide) up and down muddy hills. Towards the end there was a HUGE waterside down this hill and into, can you guess? More mud. The finale was filled with tall muddy hills you had to crawl up and over and then slide into a deeper-than-it-looked mud pool. It was pretty humorous watching us, and others, try to get up over that hill with how slippery it was. Teamwork was definitely involved.

At the end, one of the friends I was running with tackled another friend and then disappeared into the mud pool. After crossing the finish line, you walk through a tent where they have photographers set up so you can forever bask in your muddy glory and show everyone that you really know how to get dirty.

I recommend anyone who has the chance to try it at least once, if not every year it comes around. It was a BLAST and, really, when are you ever going to get THIS muddy?

For all you Utah folk, they're coming back September 17th for a 10k! I dare you!

See if they're coming to your town at www.thedirtydash.com.
